Why Golf?

Strong Camaraderie, Healthy Competition, Life-Changing Opportunities

For veterans, the transition to civilian life can be profoundly challenging. Golf offers a unique platform where players of all skill levels and backgrounds can compete in a supportive environment, building physical and mental strength. It provides structure, purpose, and opportunity—supporting recovery through focus, movement, and meaningful connection.

Through camaraderie, competition, and concentration, players rediscover confidence and build toward stronger personal and professional lives.

Our History

Bringing Veterans Back On Course Since 2013

Our founder, John Simpson MBE, contracted polio as a child and has only one fully functioning leg. Discovering golf at age 14 helped him overcome challenges, build confidence, and shape the path that would eventually lead to On Course Foundation.

An Impressive Career in the Golf Industry

Shortly after university, John approached International Management Group (IMG) founder and sports marketing pioneer Mark McCormack, who represented Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, and Gary Player. He joined IMG and quickly rose through the ranks, eventually managing business affairs for Nick Faldo, Vijay Singh, Bernhard Langer, Nick Price, and Greg Norman.

The Inception of On Course Foundation

In 2009, John visited the British Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre at Headley Court. His interactions with physically injured patients resonated deeply with his own life experiences. Inspired by what he saw, John set out to create an organization that would give injured service members and veterans the opportunity to participate in golf on a level playing field.

A Vision Realized

That vision ultimately became the foundation for On Course Foundation and its mission to help veterans rebuild confidence, community, and opportunity through golf.

Proud to Have Had “The King’s” Support Since Our Inception

A former Yeoman in the Coastguard, Arnold Palmer always had time for others. During his incredible career Arnold amassed 72 wins worldwide, including seven Major Championships.

When I met a small number of the injured servicemen in Orlando through On Course, I was profoundly moved and hugely impressed by their courage and determination in facing what seems to me enormous adversity. Golf has been such a huge part of my life and to see that our beloved game can be used as an integral tool in the rehabilitation of soldiers from around the world fills me with great pride.

Golf has been such a huge part of my life and to see that our beloved game can be used as an integral tool in the rehabilitation of soldiers from around the world fills me with great pride.

I am deeply honored to be Patron of an organisation that crosses all political and religious barriers in supporting those who have given so much to their respective countries at such high personal and emotional cost. It is a genuine privilege to be able to support and highlight the growing number of courageous individuals who are too often forgotten.”

On Course Foundation Simpson Cup

The Simpson Cup is our annual Ryder Cup-style tournament featuring teams of 13 injured service members and veterans from the USA and the UK. It brings together the best of our community while serving as our primary platform for raising awareness and support.
