Simpson Cup Eligibility Criteria

The Simpson Cup is an international platform for the On Course Foundation and its members to engage with the public, media, and benefactors. Participation is contingent upon a comprehensive understanding of the etiquette and rules of golf.

Playing in the Simpson Cup presents an exceptional opportunity, and qualification is highly sought after. Priority is accorded to our active members, ambassadors, and new members participating in our programs who demonstrate a commitment to securing employment. Notably, individuals must have attended at least one of our Golf Skills & Employment Clinics within the calendar year for consideration. While victory is a significant objective, the event transcends mere fielding the strongest team.

Team Structure

  • The Simpson Cup Committee holds sole responsibility for all decisions related to eligibility and qualification criteria.
  • The team will consist of thirteen (13) players.
  • The Captain will be appointed by the Simpson Cup Committee and will serve in a non-playing role.
  • The team will include four (4) invited players selected by the Captain, National Director, and OCF USA Team.
  • The remaining nine (9) roster spots will be determined through qualification events.

Qualification & Selection Process

  • Players invited to qualification events are selected based on their involvement with and dedication to the OCF's mission and core values.
  • Approximately fifty (50) players may be invited to participate in qualifying events.
  • The National Director and OCF USA Team retain final authority regarding Captain recommendations, qualifiers, and all Team USA decisions.

Handicap & Eligibility Requirements

  • A player's handicap is a significant factor in the selection process.
  • Competitors must possess an active USGA Handicap Index® and GHIN number issued through an authorized golf club.
  • In most circumstances, players with a handicap above eighteen (18) will not be considered.
  • All selectees must demonstrate prior attendance at OCF events, organizational knowledge, and strong character.

Participant Expectations

  • By accepting an invitation, participants confirm their availability for the Simpson Cup and all associated Team USA activities.
  • Participants unable to commit to all required events may be removed from consideration.
  • Participants are expected to possess a valid passport and be eligible for travel to the United Kingdom during applicable event years.
  • On Course Foundation will cover golf, food, and beverage expenses during qualification events. Participants are responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses.

Golf was very therapeutic for me.Once I found golf, it gave me a sense of purpose. And moving forward it gave me different challenges every day — not only the golf aspect of it.
